Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify site specific environmental and heritage concerns
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation and procedures
   • Identify the nature of environmental and heritage issues and record according to workplace procedures
   • Enact emergency plan according to workplace procedures
2. Assess and respond to environmental and heritage concerns
   • Inspect site on receipt of clearances to confirm environment and heritage issues
   • Enact required isolation procedures
   • Remove and contain identified contaminants according to workplace procedures
   • Complete all required records and documentation accurately and promptly
3. Work within environmental and heritage guidelines
   • Adhere to environment and heritage guidelines
   • Contact the environmental and heritage authorities to report issues as required within the scope of own job role

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns on at least two occasions, including:

identifying environmental and heritage issues or concerns

planning for, documenting and communicating environmental and heritage issues or concerns

identifying contaminants

removing and containing contaminants

reporting issues or concerns to the appropriate workplace authorities.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply required documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for identifying and assessing environmental and heritage concerns

work with others to undertake and complete the planning and organisation of work that meets all of the required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns, including those related to:

work health and safety procedures

emergency procedures

contamination principles

environmental and heritage procedures

equipment safety requirements

site fire management strategies

hazardous goods procedures and consequences of spills

isolation procedures

records and reports.
